120 kmph Speed Trial Success: Gwalior-Sheopur Kalan Section

In a major milestone for regional connectivity, Indian Railways has successfully conducted a high-speed trial reaching 120 kmph on the Birpur–Sironi Road rail section. This achievement is a significant part of the ongoing Gwalior-Sheopur Kalan gauge conversion project, which aims to transform travel within the Gwalior-Chambal region.

Rigorous Safety Inspections Completed

The high-speed trial was accompanied by an intensive two-day safety audit conducted on September 28 and 29, 2026. The inspection was led by E. Srinivasa, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for the North Eastern Circle, and yielded successful results across all evaluated parameters.

During this meticulous two-day exercise, the safety team performed a comprehensive examination of the 24-kilometer rail segment. The audit focused on several critical areas to ensure the line meets modern operational standards:

  • Track and Signaling: A thorough check of the track integrity and signaling systems.
  • Infrastructure: Detailed inspections of points and bridges located along the section.
  • Operational Equipment: A technical review of the panel and relay room at the Birpur station.

Expert Oversight and Project Progress

The successful execution of these trials was coordinated by key railway officials, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Ajit Singh Yadav and Jhansi Divisional Railway Manager Aniruddh Kumar. Their joint efforts ensured that all safety and technical protocols were strictly followed during the testing phase.

This development follows recent updates from August 2026, which indicated that work on the Birpur–Sironi Road and Seroni Road–Sheopur Kalan stretches was nearing its final stages. With the successful completion of these high-speed trials and safety audits, the Gwalior–Sheopur Kalan line is expected to become fully operational in the coming months, providing much-needed rail connectivity to the Gwalior-Chambal area.
