To support high-traffic periods such as the festive rush and daily Tatkal bookings, Indian Railways introduced an upgraded reservation system this August. This technical enhancement is specifically designed to boost overall booking capacity and maintain system stability when millions of passengers log in simultaneously.
Passengers are also reminded of an essential security protocol introduced previously: Aadhaar authentication became mandatory for the initial 15 minutes of booking general reserved tickets online via the IRCTC platform starting October 1, 2025. Completing this step requires entering an OTP sent directly to the passenger's Aadhaar-linked mobile number to successfully finalize the transaction.
While the 60-day ARP applies uniformly to general domestic passengers, foreign tourist travelers remain completely exempt from this restriction. International visitors may continue to plan their itineraries well in advance and book their train tickets up to 365 days ahead of their journey date.
