Indian Railways Proposes Extending Indore Nagpur Vande Bharat Express to Bilaspur
Indian Railways has finalized a proposal to extend the existing Indore-Nagpur Vande Bharat Express service to Bilaspur, aiming to establish direct connectivity between Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. The South East Central Railway submitted this major plan to the Railway Board to eliminate the current requirement for passengers to change trains at Nagpur. Reports confirming this development emerged between August 23 and 24, 2026, after the initiative successfully received approval at the General Manager level and now awaits final clearance.
- Direct Connectivity: Links Bilaspur and Indore directly without requiring a train change at Nagpur.
- Merged Services: Combines the existing 20825/20826 Bilaspur-Nagpur and 20911/20912 Indore-Nagpur Vande Bharat services into a single route.
- Operational Schedule: Will operate six days a week, excluding Saturdays, covering 1,052 kilometers in approximately 14 hours.
Proposed Timings and Route Details
Under the proposed operational plan, the train will depart from Bilaspur at 6:45 a.m. and pass through Raipur, Durg, Gondia, and Nagpur before reaching its final destination at Indore at 9:05 p.m. A return service from Indore to Bilaspur is also included in the comprehensive plan. Railway authorities have confirmed that the expansion will not require additional train sets, as it cleverly utilizes current rolling stock while maintaining all existing scheduled stops for both parent trains.
Feasibility and Final Launch
While the initiative aims to significantly streamline travel for daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike, officials are currently evaluating the feasibility of using standard AC chair car configurations for such an extensive 1,052-kilometer transit. Once the Railway Board grants its final approval, official operational timings and launch dates will be formally announced by the authorities.
